Weekend Coffee Share: Old Times, Hard Times

This week, if we were talking over coffee, I’d tell you that nostalgia has been a major theme in my life of late. Well… if I’m honest, I’ve been going through a great deal of retrospection since the Pirate and I parted ways. Not out of any regret for the way things ended with the Pirate (though it isn’t the way I would have wanted it), but because I was blinded by exactly how many similarities there were with that situation and some of the ones from the past.

Most notably the Boy, but, as we’ve already discussed, it’s the differences in that situation that made the biggest difference to me.

I also feel that I’ve made progress as a human being simply because I was able to walk away with half the self-conflict than I felt during the situation with the Boy.

I suppose it’s that progress, along with the other personal struggles going on right now that have me feeling so nostalgic.

Find your Nerve

It’s about time I got back to talking about movies. I’ve seen quite a few this summer, and most of them have been good. I quit writing about them at some point because the pretty constant confusion I was experiencing due to the Pirate kept me from being able to really focus enough to talk about them. Most of my intellectual energy was being spent trying to figure out how he felt since his words and actions didn’t match (that’s a running theme in my life), or in trying to convince myself that I did actually like him, since he ticked several of the right boxes… though, if I’m honest, not enough for me to have tried so hard to convince myself.  Continue reading Find your Nerve

Tonight on #JustAddTea: The Future!

Last week I had to cancel our weekly Twitter Chat so I could see an advanced screening of the movie Nerve, and while I missed talking to everyone, it was a movie that is definitely worth it. Even though the movie doesn’t come out officially for another week, I saw that there are several places around Houston already showing movie times, so expect my review to post shortly. Like, maybe later today or tomorrow at the latest.

In the meantime though, our virtual tea party is back on for tonight!  Continue reading Tonight on #JustAddTea: The Future!

Tonight on #JustAddTea: Second Chances.

I’ve been really dwelling on this whole idea of second chances. What type of person deserves a second chance? Or does everyone deserve an opportunity to prove themselves?

I usually take the second stance, but I’ve been really thinking about how things were with the Pirate, and I think that perhaps my curiosity and my loneliness got the better of me and thus I made him out to be better in my head than he was in reality. On the other hand, I do see how his current situation may be to blame for his crappy attitude, and I really hadn’t made up my mind whether or not he was more Jekyll or more Hyde.

Thus, tonight, I’m seeking advice in our Twitter chat. Tonight’s #JustAddTea party will be about Second Chances! Continue reading Tonight on #JustAddTea: Second Chances.

Through the Keyhole (original poem)

In the tiny span of time
in which we have spent
to get to know one another,
while you have bared
various bits of yourself to the air
for me to look at and wonder,
you have but glimpsed me
through a keyhole
as I begin to remove the layers
that keep me safe from
the outside world,
safe from the
tirades of ignoble men.
