Getting motivated is more than staring at beautiful typewriter words, or curating “inspo” images on Pinterest, or carousing “uplifting” hashtags on Instagram. Sometimes you need a real kick in the behind to get it done. Sometimes you need a little something like this:
Sharknado
Sharknado is a masterpiece and literally nobody can tell me differently (we don’t speak of the sequels). But if you’re ever feeling down, feel like an imposter in your own career, feel like your ideas aren’t clever or creative or enough, never forget that these actual movies got actually made with a real actual budget with real actual actors. And if all of that can happen, anything is possible.
Carrie Fisher
Before her tragic passing, Carrie Fisher was a font of insight, grace and kick-booty wisdom. We’ve all had moments where we were gripped by fear, paralyzed by indecision. But when you decide to do it anyway, you can do anything.
Shia Labeouf (Just Do It)
The video is an internet phenomenon, the story behind it shrouded in legend and myth, and the motivation that can only come from the madman screaming of JUST. DO. IT. is exactly the kick in the pants that gets your caboose on track. Yesterday, you said tomorrow, so today, get it done.
Santa
If you really think about it, we’ve spent a lot of time believing in the impossible. Flying reindeer. Magical molar-stealing faeries. The fact that an overweight man on a trans-continental journey would want cookies and milk instead of buffalo wings and a beer. But what you’re going to do isn’t impossible, but it’s no less magic. All you need to do is believe.
November O’Malley likes to kick boring motivational quotes in the butt and enjoy a nice cuppa chai and she’s all out of tea.
When she’s not writing fantasy novels, she’s yelling at dragons in video games, re-watching old movies, and discovering the best new places to write in New York City.
Her debut novella In the House of Souls is available for purchase now on Amazon.

I love the Santa thought! So true!
