Awake or Alive? (original poem)

The tender flutterings of your lips brushing my eyelids
send shivers of ecstasy through my spirit.
The scent of your flesh
and the heat of your breath
tickle my nose,
a memory of what I want to happen,
and what might be,
chasing me through a dream
too true to be good and
too perfect to be real.

I have envisioned this moment,
touching myself and wishing it was you,
your large, rough hands gliding down my belly,
leaving trails of steam through the landscape of my soul.

Now that the moment has come,
I find myself questioning:
am I merely awake?
Or, for the first time,
am I truly alive?

awake

About Elizabeth

First and foremost I am a teacher. What I teach is a blend of grammatical art, literary love, and a smidge of spiritual awareness. My blog tries to combine the best of all three over a cup of tea.
