I watched a youtube video the other day about some of the most overdone tropes in fantasy literature. The Youtuber was someone who had been in the publishing industry and then decided to become an author, so she is decidedly more of an authority on the subject of what publishers want than I am.
Having said that, what publishers Want and what people Need isn’t always the same sort of story.

I sometimes go to IHOP to write. This sounds counterproductive due to the noise level and being interrupted by waitstaff, but in reality, it’s very comfortable. When I was in college, IHOP became a place of comfort for me. There would be whole groups of us that would gather there late in the evenings (and often into the morning) playing the question game, actually interacting, and being 100% genuine. There wasn’t a lot of judgment at that IHOP. More likely, it was because the atmosphere of a college town where there are competing colleges with competing theological ideologies allowed for an ambiance of honest communication to truly develop.
It was a special time in my life and the only time (prior to knowing about my ASD) that I felt totally comfortable being myself.

This week, if we were talking over coffee, I’d have to have you meet me in my room, and bring me a hot cocoa while I’m hiding, wrapped up like a burrito in bed. The more I see of how the election results have changed this country, the less I want to be a part of it.

This weekend, if we were talking over coffee, I’d tell you that I’ve moved again. Into a temporary place, but it was out of necessity.
The other day I shared a little snippet of what’s been going on in the house in which I was staying. Mostly I shared about the rudeness of the daughter and the lack of gas meaning no hot water and no cooking, etc. It’s been an ever increasingly bad situation since they went on their trip to Florida, which is when I realized that they were neglecting both the dog and the cat, in ways which could be only described as abuse of a pet.
