Weekend Coffee Share: Moving Day

Hello to all my coffee share peeps! I almost missed this week, because I already have no idea what day of the week it is at any given moment. Normally it takes a little longer into the summer for me to lose track of days, but the events of this year and the last few weeks especially has expedited the summer time-confusion.

This week, similar to last week, has been a bit hectic and disheveled. At least, that’s how I feel… whether or not the events of the week actually reflect that, I guess we’ll see.

A study of tragedy during Tragic Times

It’s safe to say there’s a bit of tragedy happening in the world at the moment, and while I wish I had a cure-all for the sadness that occurs during these times, instead I began to think about how could this be used in writing. The thought occurred to me that it might give some people a sense of release to be able to write a tragic story, or to at least include some tragic elements in their works.

It may sound like the exact opposite of what one should do, but it seems to me like it might give some people a sense of control during these times when we seemingly have none.

Beltane 2020: From the Flames, Flowers will Bloom

The Great Wheel turns again! Today, May 1st, marks the midway point between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. It is the peak of Spring, where we celebrate the longer days, warmer nights, and the blooming of flowers.

It’s a holiday with, as it turns out, a bit of a complex background. Like the Easter bunny doesn’t fit with the Christian celebration of Easter (but it does with the New Age Ostara festival), there are two elements of Beltane that seem to conflict: Fire and Flowers.

So where do they come from? And why are they celebrated together? More importantly, how can I include them both in a way that is both honoring the day and makes me feel a little better during this crazy time in human history?

Beltane 2019: I’m back…

As the fires of Bel make the land fertile and the sun takes over, bringing us into Summer (though it was gray and wet when I tried to go on a walk earlier), I’m finally back to write and share with my wonderful online people!

I do apologize for my disappearance. I wish I had a good excuse, but basically, it was simply that something had to take a back seat, and this was the thing that went. All of my writing went the way of the dodo for the last month or so…

This weekend I’ll be back with the Coffee Share (assuming it still exists…), so today I want to celebrate Beltane, also known as May Day!

Happy Witches’ New Year!!

It seems exceedingly appropriate that this holiday should land on a Wednesday, a day that for me is very focused on introspection and thinking about where I am going or where I have been. Samhain is a good day for such things, as it is the epitome of the crossroads. It is the time when the veil between the worlds is thinnest, allowing the spirits to cross over into our realm.

There is a reason why so many cultures celebrate the dead at this time of year, and in so doing, we celebrate those who have gone before us, those who make us who we have become, and those who will help shape us into what we will eventually be.
